CURTIS HILL SPRING RENDEVOUS

CURTIS HILL SPRING RENDEZVOUS

16-17 MAY 2008

A combination of great weather, lots of trains, friendly railfans and interesting experiences made the recent get together in and around Curtis Hill, Oklahoma, a very successful railfan event.

BNSF is to be congratulated for their part in the event.  They provided a varied and constant stream of trains on Friday and Saturday morning.  We saw B, E, G, H, L, M, Q, S, V, W, as well as, many hot Z trains.  The work train at Waynoka with two War Bonnets was my favorite of the event.  There were fewer run-through, pool and lease locos than expected.  CN, CSXT, EMD, KCS and NS were represented.  Not one Yellow Peril (UP) was sighted by us during the two day trip.  Yeh!!!

Gary Githens, Duane Koss and his lovely friend, Linda, are to be congratulated for putting the event together.  Thanks for your patience in answering us new guys questions, and getting the information out of what was happening where and when.  Just hope you don’t get another visit from the Feds.

After a hard day on the hill, a few sturdy fans gathered for an informal Slide Show.  Duane Koss presented his “Trip to Mexico 1995”, Bill Collins shared quite a few pictures of old red and green Katy power in and around Parsons, Kansas, and I had a reel of Southern California railroading in the late 1970’s.  A good time was had by all.
